Councilman William E. Powers, Jr., has been both a Delawarean and a resident of New Castle County since childhood. He is a family man being married to his wife Joan for nearly two decades with whom he is proudly raising his two children, Katie and Will.
As a youth, Bill was interested in farming and plowed local fields and worked with horses. Upon graduation from Newark High School in 1977, Bill’s parents bought a farm in Townsend which today he owns and his whole family operates.
For years, Bill’s farm supplied turkeys to many residents in New Castle County. Currently, his family raises sheep, beef cattle and hogs on the farm.
Bill is also a full-time employee of the Chrysler Corporation.
Bill currently serves on the Delaware Beef Advisory Council and the Delaware Sheep & Wool Producers, Inc. He is also actively involved with the activities of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H.
He has served as a member of the New Castle County Farm Preservation Advisory Board, Delaware Open Space Council, the Delaware Citizen’s Task Force for Water Quality, and the Committee for National Parks in Delaware.
Elected to his first term of office as a New Castle County Councilman in November of 2006, Bill presently is a member of the Council’s Community Services Committee, Finance/Administration Committee, Special Services Committee, Land Use Committee, Economic Development Committee and Executive Committee.
Bill’s top priority is to improve the land use process to assure that both the citizens of today and of the future will be able to live and work in a high quality and livable environment.
