New Castle County EMS seeks people who are up to the challenge of affirming our goal of “Excellence in Service” each and every day.

Earning your paramedic shield marks a significant accomplishment in your
EMS career.  New Castle County EMS awards the agency badge and insignia to employees that successfully complete the field evaluation process and are released to full duties as a paramedic.

A career with
New Castle County EMS offers: challenge, excitement, variety, teamwork and job satisfaction, opportunities for personal and professional development, opportunities for promotion, and excellent salary and benefits.

ENTRY LEVEL APPLICANTS

New Castle County EMS has limited opportunities for individuals needing the initial training and education necessary for national and state certification as a paramedic.  Individuals selected for paramedic training are employed by New Castle County during the 14-18 months of initial paramedic training and receive salary and benefits.  All paramedic candidates employed by the County and sponsored for paramedic training are required to execute a five (5) year service obligation contract.

Applications for entry level applicants are accepted during specific posting periods.  All paramedic applicants must complete all components of the applicant selection process, which includes a comprehensive background investigation.

A New Castle County Paramedic Class celebrates their completion of paramedic training and certification in front of the New Castle County Public Safety Headquarters, following the annual EMS Graduation and Appointment Ceremony during National EMS Week.

Check the New Castle County Employment Opportunities web site, or call the County Office of Human Resources at 302-395-5180 to find out if New Castle County is accepting applications for entry level PARAMEDIC positions.

SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION CANDIDATES

New Castle County EMS accepts applications from Nationally Registered paramedics with current certifications in BCLS, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS or ITLS at the advanced level.  Individuals interested in joining an expanding paramedic service should submit a New Castle County Application for Employment to the County Office of Human Resources with copies of their current certifications.  Be sure to indicate “Selective Certification Paramedic” as the position on the employment application.
