51 Year old Male Tries to Outrun Police Officer, Charged with 5th DUI
A New Castle County Police Officer, who stopped a car for a minor registration violation, suddenly found himself engaged in a brief foot pursuit with a slow footed man who was unable to outrun the much younger officer. Police learned the subject tried to run because he had been drinking and was wanted for failure to report to a correctional facility to serve jail time for his 4th DUI conviction.

Man Charged with Attempting to Steal Gas from NCCo Facility
New Castle County Police have arrested James T. McDannell, a 33 year old male who resides in the unit block of Tracy Court in the Kiamensi Manor community. He has been charged with two counts of criminal mischief, trespassing, possession of burglar’s tools, attempted theft, and traffic offenses after he broke into a county facility and attempted to steal gasoline.

Police Seize Tech 9 Semi Automatic Handgun, Arrest Fugitive Wanted in Shooting
New Castle County Police have arrested three adult male subjects for various weapon violations after they were stopped in a county parkland while smoking marijuana inside their car. Inside their vehicle, police located and seized a small quantity of marijuana, a loaded Tech 9 handgun, and a .22 caliber handgun.

Burglary Suspect Arrested, Linked to Christmas Gift Theft
New Castle County Police have arrested Andrew Desmond, a 26 year old male whose last known address was in the 400 block of Greenwood Drive in Wilmington –he is currently listed as homeless. Desmond was arrested after police captured him as he fled from a burglary scene yesterday. Police later discovered he stole his father’s Christmas present (and later pawned it) while visiting his family on December 25. Detectives further learned he stole five checks from his grandmother as well. He is accused of forging her name and cashing the checks for more than $2,000.

Suspect Arrested after Attempting to Breech Storefront Wall
New Castle County Detectives have arrested Barry L. Benigni, a 44 year old male who resides in the 400 block of Beach Street in Linwood, PA. He has been charged with attempting to break into the Wawa Store on Carpenter Station Road by attempting to smash through the front wall. He is accused of placing a large white (six feet tall, four feet square) fake storage box in front of the store that was complete with a lock and hinges. Benigni then entered the box and attempted to breech the wall using a sledge hammer.

New Castle County Police are continuing to investigate a home invasion style robbery and assault that occurred last month in the East Point Apartment complex. A 63 year old male was accosted, assaulted and robbed inside his apartment by two intruders who attacked him while he was sleeping. Investigators have completed a composite sketch of the suspect and released it to the public.

Man Sought in Felony Assault Investigation
New Castle County Police currently have arrest warrants on file for Thomas Robertson, a 35 year old male whose last known address is in the 3000 block of Tulip Lane in Philadelphia. He is currently wanted for felony assault and related offenses after he attacked his ex-girlfriend by punching and kicking her about the head and face. The victim was knocked unconscious and her teeth were knocked out during the assault.

Police Release Composite Sketch of a Possible Robbery Suspect
New Castle County Police are currently investigating a possible attempted robbery of a 47 year old Wilmington woman whose vehicle was cut off by one vehicle and boxed in by a second. The operator of the vehicle in the front then exited the car and pointed a large caliber handgun at the victim as he approached her. Just prior to getting to the victim, the suspect noted she was talking on the phone and suddenly returned to his car and fled. A composite sketch of the suspect has been released to the public.

Home Drug Store Shut Down
The New Castle County Police, Mobile Enforcement Team has shut down another drug operation in New Castle. This time, a residence known to neighbors, as a 24 hour operation, has been closed for business after police executed a search warrant and recovered 243 bags of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and approximately $2,000 in suspected drug proceeds.

Elderly Woman Released from Hospital After Senior Roll Call “Save”
The New Castle County Police Senior Roll Call Lifeline Program has been credited with saving a 93 year old female who fell on her floor and was incapacitated on Christmas evening. The victim was confined to her floor for several hours until she was rescued by her daughter and neighbor who received an alert from a Senior Roll Call volunteer. The victim, who had been hospitalized for several days, has recovered and been released from the hospital.

Teen Charged with Discharging Handgun in Apartment Complex, Potential Victim Not Located
New Castle County Police have arrested Dominec Williams, a 19 year old male who resides in the 2500 block of Washington Street in the City of Wilmington. At this point, he has only been charged with firing a handgun in a residential area and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. The person who he reportedly fired upon has not been located at his home or at the hospital. It may be because he's injured or he may not want to be found due to the six outstanding arrest warrants that have been issued for him for previous criminal offenses.

The other victims were ages 5 (female), 8 (male), and 10 (male).

Canine Bandit Passed Away
It is with regret that we must announce the untimely passing of police canine Bandit, a four year veteran of the police department. Bandit became suddenly ill on Sunday, 11/15 and was immediately hospitalized. During an exam, it was discovered that he had an inoperable brain tumor. Due to the extent of the disease and his poor condition, it was determined the best course of action was to euthanize him. Bandit was put to sleep late Monday afternoon surrounded by his friends and family. He had the opportunity to work Saturday night doing what he loved to do, with the people he loved. Our thoughts are with Bandit’s handler and best friend, Corporal Paul Chickadel.

Man 43, in Critical Condition after Domestic Altercation with Gun
New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a domestic altercation and shooting that occurred early this morning in the community of Garwood Estates. During the altercation, a male subject pointed a handgun at his stepson and fired a single round, but missed him. The step son was able to disarm and hold him in a “wrestling style” maneuver until his mother could put the gun in a safe place. The step father lost consciousness during the altercation and is currently listed in critical condition at the Christiana Hospital.

Robbery Suspect Disarmed, Shot by Victim
New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating an attempted robbery and subsequent shooting that occurred last evening in the community of Holloway Terrace. A 17 year old male, who was armed with a loaded handgun, attempted to rob a 21 old man but was unsuccessful. The victim was able to disarm the teen and shoot him twice during a struggle with the gun. The teen later called 911 and reported he had been shot by an unknown subject.

He has been charged with felony offenses after he intentionally struck a pedestrian with his car during a dispute in Brookside. After striking the male victim with his car, he drove off leaving the injured man on the side of the roadway and failed to call/report the collision.

New Castle County Police are currently investigating the burglary of a Beech Hill residence and theft of over $10,000 in stolen jewelry and electronics. The female victim encountered a male suspect as he was fleeing the home and tried to block his car in her driveway. The male suspect then drove his car across the victim's yard and escaped.

“Flying Sparks” Leads to Arrest for Attempted Felony Theft
New Castle County Police have arrested two suspects for attempting to steal a utility trailer from the parking lot of the Life Community Church in Newark, DE. An alert officer drove passed the church and observed “flying sparks” coming from the side of a trailer and stopped to investigate the light show. The officer was surprised to find a male subject using a “Skilsaw” that was powered by a generator in an attempt to remove a “The Club Tire Claw” from the trailer.

Canine Locates Drugs in Car During Traffic Stop
New Castle County Police have arrested three male subjects for various drug offenses after police stopped their car and found they were in possession of Percocet pills, Vicodin pills, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A police canine “Monty” searched the car and located the marijuana that had been concealed underneath of the rear passenger seat.

New Castle County Investigators have released a composite sketch of one of two gunmen who forced their way into a Midway Plaza Apartment residence last weekend. Once inside, the two gunmen robbed a total of five men at gunpoint before fleeing the residence with several items of value.

New Castle County Police are currently investigating a burglary of an unoccupied residence which occurred in the community of Glen Berne Estates during the early morning hours. Detectives Investigate Possible Attempted Robbery, 2nd Case in Eight Days
New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a possible attempted robbery that occurred last evening in the Arbor Pointe Apartments. A female victim was chased from her car by a male assailant who caught up to her while she was ascending her apartment steps. He then attempted to drag her back down the flight of stairs, but was scared off by another male witness. This is the second incident involving a female victim who was accosted by a male suspect in the area over the past eight days. In the first case, a male subject approached a female in a nearby parking lot and pointed a gun at her before stealing her purse.

Two Ex-Marines Arrested, Linked to Four Residential Burglaries
New Castle County Police have arrested two ex-marines and linked them to four residential burglaries. They have been charged with burglary and drug related offenses. Officers observed the suspect vehicle parked on Old Darley Road at the intersection of West Shelly Drive in the community of Ashbourne Hills. The vehicle was occupied by a female matching the description of one of the subjects involved in the burglaries. While the officers were talking to the female subject, the male subject was observed running from behind a residence in the 700 block of Old Darley Road. The male approached the officers and told them that the vehicle belonged to him. Both suspects have been linked to four residential burglaries within Northern New Castle County.
