51 Year old Male Tries to Outrun Police Officer, Charged with 5^th DUI

A New Castle County Police Officer, who stopped a car for a minor registration violation, suddenly found himself engaged in a brief foot pursuit with a slow footed man who was unable to outrun the much younger officer.  Police learned the subject tried to run because he had been drinking and was wanted for failure to report to a correctional facility to serve jail time for his 4^th DUI conviction.

Man Charged with Attempting to Steal Gas from NCCo Facility

New Castle County Police have arrested James T. McDannell, a 33 year old male who resides in the unit block of Tracy Court in the Kiamensi Manor community.  He has been charged with two counts of criminal mischief, trespassing, possession of burglar’s tools, attempted theft, and traffic offenses after he broke into a county facility and attempted to steal gasoline.

Police Search for Missing 15 year old Pregnant Female

New Castle County Detectives are currently searching for Janteyl Johnson, a resident of the unit block of Winterhaven Drive in the Autumn Park Apartments.  The teen, who is five months pregnant, returned home from school early yesterday afternoon and has not been seen or heard from since.

Footprints in Snow Lead to Theft Suspects

New Castle County Police have arrested three suspects for breaking into at least one car in the Brookside and possibly in the Todd Estates and Newark Oaks communities early Wednesday.  Police have recovered a number of stolen items (small electronics), but have not yet linked the goods to victims as they may not have reported/noticed the crimes.

New Castle County Police have arrested Sameir Handy, a 19 year old male who resides in the unit block of Birkshire Drivein the community of Oakmont.  He has been charged with two counts of robbery and related offenses after police linked him to two armed robberies that have occurred over the past five days.

New Castle County Police have arrest warrants on file for Douglas R. Smith, a 27 year old homeless man who frequents the Kirkwood Highway corridor.  He is currently wanted for multiple counts of theft and violations of no contact orders involving a 79 year old female victim.

Police Seize Tech 9 Semi Automatic Handgun, Arrest Fugitive Wanted in Shooting

New Castle County Police have arrested three adult male subjects for various weapon violations after they were stopped in a county parkland while smoking marijuana inside their car.  Inside their vehicle, police located and seized a small quantity of marijuana, a loaded Tech 9 handgun, and a .22 caliber handgun.

The New Castle County Safe Streets Team has arrested Richard Melendez, a 27 year old male who resides in the 2000 block of W. Newport Pike in Stanton.  He has been charged with felony drug violations after he delivered crack cocaine to Safe Streets officers in the Clover Leaf Trailer Park.

Man Charged with Raping Teen

New Castle County Police have arrested Vincente Santillan, a 29 year old male who resides in the unit block of West Plover Court in the Sparrow Run community.  He has been charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, three counts of rape and three counts of unlawful sexual contact.

Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Seizure

New Castle County Police have arrested Daniel Brown Jr., a resident of the unit block of Lisa Drive in Newark, DE.  He has been charged with felony weapon possession after police stopped him in his car after he committed two traffic violations and later found a loaded .357 handgun hidden inside his car.

New Castle County Police have arrested a Ricky Crawford, a 29 year old Jamaican citizen who had been living in the 300 block of N. West Street in the City of Wilmington.  He has been charged with multiple felony offenses after police found two guns inside his car and later learned he had provided a false name.

Man, 20 Shot in Head, Uncooperative with Investigators

New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a shooting involving a 20 year old male who was shot in the head by an unknown subject Sunday evening.  The victim was conscious and speaking with investigators before going into surgery for a fractured skull and bullet fragments in his brain.  He and several witnesses have been uncooperative with the investigation.

Burglary Suspect Arrested, Linked to Christmas Gift Theft

New Castle County Police have arrested Andrew Desmond, a 26 year old male whose last known address was in the 400 block of Greenwood Drive in Wilmington –he is currently listed as homeless.  Desmond was arrested after police captured him as he fled from a burglary scene yesterday.  Police later discovered he stole his father’s Christmas present (and later pawned it) while visiting his family on December 25.  Detectives further learned he stole five checks from his grandmother as well.  He is accused of forging her name and cashing the checks for more than $2,000.

Suspect Arrested after Attempting to Breech Storefront Wall

New Castle County Detectives have arrested Barry L. Benigni, a 44 year old male who resides in the 400 block of Beach Street in Linwood, PA.  He has been charged with attempting to break into the Wawa Store on Carpenter Station Road by attempting to smash through the front wall.  He is accused of placing a large white (six feet tall, four feet square) fake storage box in front of the store that was complete with a lock and hinges.  Benigni then entered the box and attempted to breech the wall using a sledge hammer.

Police Release Composite Sketch of Home Invasion Suspect

New Castle County Police are continuing to investigate a home invasion style robbery and assault that occurred last month in the East Point Apartment complex.  A 63 year old male was accosted, assaulted and robbed inside his apartment by two intruders who attacked him while he was sleeping.  Investigators have completed a composite sketch of the suspect and released it to the public.

Man Sought in Felony Assault Investigation

New Castle County Police currently have arrest warrants on file for Thomas Robertson, a 35 year old male whose last known address is in the 3000 block of Tulip Lane in Philadelphia.  He is currently wanted for felony assault and related offenses after he attacked his ex-girlfriend by punching and kicking her about the head and face.  The victim was knocked unconscious and her teeth were knocked out during the assault.

Police Release Composite Sketch of a Possible Robbery Suspect

New Castle County Police are currently investigating a possible attempted robbery of a 47 year old Wilmington woman whose vehicle was cut off by one vehicle and boxed in by a second.  The operator of the vehicle in the front then exited the car and pointed a large caliber handgun at the victim as he approached her.  Just prior to getting to the victim, the suspect noted she was talking on the phone and suddenly returned to his car and fled.  A composite sketch of the suspect has been released to the public.

Home Drug Store Shut Down

The New Castle County Police, Mobile Enforcement Team has shut down another drug operation in New Castle.  This time, a residence known to neighbors, as a 24 hour operation, has been closed for business after police executed a search warrant and recovered 243 bags of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and approximately $2,000 in suspected drug proceeds.

New Castle County Police have arrested Joshua Richardson, a 22 year old male who resides in the 2300 block of E. Mall Street in the Ardentown community.  He has been charged with burglary related offenses after police followed his blood trail from a crime scene that led back to his apartment.

Elderly Woman Released from Hospital After Senior Roll Call “Save”

The New Castle County Police Senior Roll Call Lifeline Program has been credited with saving a 93 year old female who fell on her floor and was incapacitated on Christmas evening.  The victim was confined to her floor for several hours until she was rescued by her daughter and neighbor who received an alert from a Senior Roll Call volunteer.  The victim, who had been hospitalized for several days, has recovered and been released from the hospital.

New Castle County Police have arrested Kyle Oliver, an 18 year old male whose last known address was in the 100 block of Brighton Avenuein the community of Brack Ex.   He has been charged with felony assault and weapon violations after he stabbed a man yesterday morning during a dispute with his girlfriend.

Teen Charged with Discharging Handgun in Apartment Complex, Potential Victim Not Located

New Castle County Police have arrested Dominec Williams, a 19 year old male who resides in the 2500 block of Washington Street in the City of Wilmington.  At this point, he has only been charged with firing a handgun in a residential area and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.  The person who he reportedly fired upon has not been located at his home or at the hospital.  It may be because he's injured or he may not want to be found due to the six outstanding arrest warrants that have been issued for him for previous criminal offenses.

New Castle County Police are currently seeking the identity of a robbery suspect who temporarily held a patron, presumably while armed with a weapon, and robbed the clerk of cash before fleeing on foot.

Teen Charged with DUI, Strikes Police Cruiser

New Castle County Police have arrested Bryce Oneschuk, a 16 year old male who resides in the 100 block of Commonwealth Avenue in Claymont, DE.  He has been charged with four counts of felony reckless endangering, DUI, various traffic offenses and possession of alcohol after he fled from police in his grandparents’ car and rammed a police cruiser.

New Castle County Police have arrested Michael McDowell, a 42 year old male whose last known address is in the 100 block of Brookside Drive in Newark, DE.  He has been charged with theft related offenses when officers apprehended him after he broke into several cars in the Scottfield community.  Officers have recovered and returned a number of stolen items to victims, however, a handful of other stolen items have not yet been linked to victims.

New Castle County Police have arrested Jerome Tilghman, a 27 year old male who resides in the 600 block of Spruce Street in the City of Wilmington.  He has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and traffic offenses after he was stopped for a traffic violation and police found a loaded handgun underneath his seat.

New Castle County Police have arrested a female suspect for trafficking Ecstasy (MDMA) pills on Tuesday morning.  Evidently, she did not learn her lesson as she was arrested on Wednesday and charged, once again, with trafficking drugs.

Safe Streets Officers Seize 16 Firearms During Search

The New Castle County Safe Streets Team has arrested Michael T. Read Jr, a 25 year old male who resides in the unit block of Roxeter Road in the community of Castle Hills.  He has been charged with 16 counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited after police seized four handguns, 12 rifles, four knives, five bows, and several hundred rounds of ammunition from his home.  Read’s mother, Roberta (44), was found to be in possession of three bags of marijuana and 11 (narcotic) sleeping pills.

Newark Man Charged with Four Counts of Rape, Victim 13

New Castle County Police have arrested Jason Allen, a 42 year old male who resides in the 1100 block of Ralph Road in the community of Foxchase.  He has been charged with raping a 13 year old girl at his home, soliciting her for sex, and allowing the victim and three other young children to watch pornographic movies with him inside his home.  The other victims were ages 5 (female), 8 (male), and 10 (male).

Elementary School Interventionist Arrested for Trafficking Cocaine

New Castle County Police have arrested Wayne Richard, a 33 year old male who resides in the 700 block of E. 28^th Street in Wilmington, DE.  He has been charged with trafficking cocaine after undercover officers found he was in possession of cocaine that had been packaged for sale at the Shop Rite Store on S. Market Street.  Police later executed a search warrant at his home and found additional cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a handgun inside.

Father Takes Four Month Old Child on Drug Buy

Four men were arrested by the New Castle County Police, after officers conducted a vehicle stop on a suspicious vehicle near the Castle Brook apartment complex.  A four month old child was observed by the officers improperly secured in the back seat of the vehicle and drugs were seen nearby.

Two Arrested While Fleeing Burglary, One at Large

New Castle County Police have arrested two suspects after witnesses observed them kick in the front door of a home in the Meadows of Wilton Townhouses and later flee with items stolen from within the residence.  Police caught them in the act and arrested them after a short foot chase.  One suspect escaped and remains at large.

New Castle Man Breaks into Home and Repeatedly Stabs Dog

New Castle County Police have arrested Cecil Wright, a 45 year old male who resides in the unit block of Liborio Lane in the Buena Vista community.  Wright has been charged with multiple felony offenses after he broke into a Wilmington apartment complex and repeatedly stabbed the family dog.

Canine Bandit Passed Away

It is with regret that we must announce the untimely passing of police canine Bandit, a four year veteran of the police department.  Bandit became suddenly ill on Sunday, 11/15 and was immediately hospitalized.  During an exam, it was discovered that he had an inoperable brain tumor.  Due to the extent of the disease and his poor condition, it was determined the best course of action was to euthanize him.  Bandit was put to sleep late Monday afternoon surrounded by his friends and family.  He had the opportunity to work Saturday night doing what he loved to do, with the people he loved.  Our thoughts are with Bandit’s handler and best friend, Corporal Paul Chickadel.

New Castle County Police have arrested Leroy Taylor, a 27 year old male who resides in the 100 block of Delaware Drive in the community of Collins Park.  He was arrested after officers observed him “rolling a blunt” while sitting in his car with his two year old son.  After his arrest, officers found he was in possession of several bags of crack cocaine and $625 in suspected drug proceeds.

Man Dies from Domestic Choke Hold

The 43 year old male who was in critically injured during a domestic dispute last week has died at the Christiana Hospital on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.  The case has now been classified as a homicide, although no charges have been filed.

New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a departmental shooting involving a Wilmington man who shot at a police canine that had been tracking him as a result of a domestic related incident.  After the suspect fired upon the canine, he then shot at the assisting officers who returned fire.

New Castle County Police have arrested Kevin Briddell, a 37 year old male who resides in the 100 block of Colesbery Drive in the community of Penn Acres.  He has been charged with weapon related offenses after he pointed a handgun at the “Re-po man” who was in the process of repossessing his car.

Man 43, in Critical Condition after Domestic Altercation with Gun

New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a domestic altercation and shooting that occurred early this morning in the community of Garwood Estates.   During the altercation, a male subject pointed a handgun at his stepson and fired a single round, but missed him.  The step son was able to disarm and hold him in a “wrestling style” maneuver until his mother could put the gun in a safe place.  The step father lost consciousness during the altercation and is currently listed in critical condition at the Christiana Hospital.

Robbery Suspect Disarmed, Shot by Victim

New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating an attempted robbery and subsequent shooting that occurred last evening in the community of Holloway Terrace.  A 17 year old male, who was armed with a loaded handgun, attempted to rob a 21 old man but was unsuccessful.  The victim was able to disarm the teen and shoot him twice during a struggle with the gun.  The teen later called 911 and reported he had been shot by an unknown subject.

Sex Offender Charged as Fugitive from Florida

Man Charged with Vehicular Assault, Intentionally Striking Pedestrian

New Castle County Police have arrested Craig Augustyniak, a 21 year old male who resides in the unit block of N. Main Street in North East, MD.  He has been charged with felony offenses after he intentionally struck a pedestrian with his car during a dispute in Brookside.  After striking the male victim with his car, he drove off leaving the injured man on the side of the roadway and failed to call/report the collision.

Women Interrupts Burglary in Progress

New Castle County Police are currently investigating the burglary of a Beech Hill residence and theft of over $10,000 in stolen jewelry and electronics.  The female victim encountered a male suspect as he was fleeing the home and tried to block his car in her driveway.  The male suspect then drove his car across the victim's yard and escaped.

“Flying Sparks” Leads to Arrest for Attempted Felony Theft

New Castle County Police have arrested two suspects for attempting to steal a utility trailer from the parking lot of the Life Community Church in Newark, DE.  An alert officer drove passed the church and observed “flying sparks” coming from the side of a trailer and stopped to investigate the light show.  The officer was surprised to find a male subject using a “Skilsaw” that was powered by a generator in an attempt to remove a “The Club Tire Claw” from the trailer.

Canine Locates Drugs in Car During Traffic Stop

New Castle County Police have arrested three male subjects for various drug offenses after police stopped their car and found they were in possession of Percocet pills, Vicodin pills, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  A police canine “Monty” searched the car and located the marijuana that had been concealed underneath of the rear passenger seat.

Investigators Release Composite Sketch of Home Invasion Suspect

New Castle County Investigators have released a composite sketch of one of two gunmen who forced their way into a Midway Plaza Apartment residence last weekend.  Once inside, the two gunmen robbed a total of five men at gunpoint before fleeing the residence with several items of value.

Newark Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

Following a joint investigation of the New Castle County Police Department and the Delaware Child Predator Task Force, the following subject has been charged with 10 counts of possession of using a computer to unlawfully depict children in a prohibited sexual act:  Steven Hughes, a 52 year old male who resides in the unit block of Dempsey Drive in Newark, DE.

Observant Neighbor Alerts Police of Burglary

New Castle County Police are currently investigating a burglary of an unoccupied residence which occurred in the community of Glen Berne Estates during the early morning hours.  The victim was not home at the time, but an observant neighbor observed the suspect through his bedroom window and immediately called 911.

Second Suspect in Home Invasion, Kidnapping Arrested in Philadelphia

New Castle County Police have arrest warrants on file for John G. Torres, a 41 year old homeless man who lives in Philadelphia area shelters.  He has been linked to the October 8^th home invasion, robbery and kidnapping of an elderly couple in Silverside Heights.

Juvenile Shot During Attempted Robbery

New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a reported attempted robbery and shooting of a 17 year old female in Newark.  The victim had responded to Weiss Park, in the development of Salem Woods, to meet with an unknown subject who offered to sell her drugs.

Six Arrested During Prostitution Sting

New Castle County Police have arrested six subjects during a community stabilization project which targeted prostitution in a local apartment complex.  The project was conducted in the Woodfield and Haverford Place Apartments.  Five subjects were arrested for soliciting sex from undercover officers and the other subject was arrested for lewdness.

Suspect Linked to Three Residential Burglaries Monday Afternoon

New Castle County Police have arrested Samuel Reeder, a 24 year old male who resides in the unit block of New Brook Street in Newark, DE.  He has been charged with three residential burglaries that he committed yesterday in the Pike Creek area after he was arrested by Probation and Parole Officers and later found to be in possession of a stolen lighter.

Victims Robbed at Gun Point During Home Invasion

New Castle County Police are investigating a home invasion where several victims were accosted at gun point by two subjects as they were walking into an apartment.  One subject was holding a handgun while another was holding a shotgun.  The victims were ordered to lay face down on the floor of the apartment before the suspects fled the scene.

New Castle County Police have arrested Michael Strouse, a 31 year old male who resides in the 500 block of Sparrow Court in Newark, DE.  He has been charged with multiple criminal offenses after he broke into his girlfriend’s home, choked her, struck her with a chair, bit her ear (causing a laceration) and damaged over $10,000 worth of property inside all while in the presence of her two children.

Police Seized 24 Pounds of Marijuana, Suspect Arrested for Trafficking

New Castle County Police have arrested Frank Brandon, a 23 year old male who resides in the 100 block of Highland Blvd in New Castle.  Brandon, a recently relocated resident of New York City, has been charged with trafficking marijuana, possession with the intent to deliver marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle for keeping a controlled substance.

Detectives Investigate Possible Attempted Robbery, 2^nd Case in Eight Days

New Castle County Detectives are currently investigating a possible attempted robbery that occurred last evening in the Arbor Pointe Apartments.  A female victim was chased from her car by a male assailant who caught up to her while she was ascending her apartment steps.  He then attempted to drag her back down the flight of stairs, but was scared off by another male witness.  This is the second incident involving a female victim who was accosted by a male suspect in the area over the past eight days.  In the first case, a male subject approached a female in a nearby parking lot and pointed a gun at her before stealing her purse.

Fugitive from Pennsylvania Points Gun at Girlfriend, Arrested

New Castle County Police have arrested Tyron Combs, a 32 year old male who resides in the unit block of Windmill Lane in the William Penn Village Apartments.  He has been charged with felony weapon offenses after he was arrested for pointing a loaded handgun at his girlfriend and threatening to kill her during a domestic dispute.  He was also found to be wanted for drug charges in Media, Pennsylvania.

Burglary Suspect Apprehended as He Flees Crime Scene

New Castle County Police have arrested Jason Gooden, a 22 year old male who resides in the 4600 block of Haverford Place, in the Woodfield Apartments.  He has been charged with burglary related offenses after he was stopped by police as he fled from the crime scene in the Woodfield Apartments.

Robbery Suspect Arrested after Victims Break his Arm with Baseball Bat   

New Castle County Police have arrested Michael Wells, a 30 year old male who resides in the 500 block of W. Main Street in Pennsgrove, NJ.  He was arrested after he attempted to rob to teenage male victims at gunpoint.  The teens (ages 19 and 16) were able to disarm Wells and strike him with a baseball bat while attempting to fend off the attack.

Two Ex-Marines Arrested, Linked to Four Residential Burglaries

New Castle County Police have arrested two ex-marines and linked them to four residential burglaries. They have been charged with burglary and drug related offenses.  Officers observed the suspect vehicle parked on Old Darley Road at the intersection of West Shelly Drive in the community of Ashbourne Hills.  The vehicle was occupied by a female matching the description of one of the subjects involved in the burglaries.  While the officers were talking to the female subject, the male subject was observed running from behind a residence in the 700 block of Old Darley Road.  The male approached the officers and told them that the vehicle belonged to him. Both suspects have been linked to four residential burglaries within Northern New Castle County.

A 20 year old Claymont man was fatally wounded by SWAT members this morning after he brandished a handgun and pointed the weapon at the officers.

Elderly Victims Targeted in Home Invasion, Car Stolen

New Castle County Police are currently investigating a home invasion that occurred earlier this morning in the community of Silverside Heights.  A disabled elderly couple was accosted inside their home and robbed by two bandits before they fled in the victim’s car, a 1989 blue Ford Crown Victoria.
